lookback: january 2025
Table of contents
I thought it would be cool to summarize the bulk of what I’ve been doing month after month! It’s more of an exercise in habit-forming and memory recall more than anything, but documenting these things feels nice.
January was a biiiiig month. I think I’m in disbelief that I even made it out of the other side somehow. Here’s to a calmer month in February, but rarely do we get that luxury 😩
Completed
Games
- Until Then (2024) - An incredible game with lots of heart. A lot of the cultural references in this game brought me back to my childhood and my homeland.
Books
Misc
- Deleted social media - except for the fediverse and some irrelevant legacy things, I am no longer on the big ones. Catch me in the links!
- Cable managed computer
- Housemate swap 🙂(it’s a long story.)
Started
Games
Here we go again.
- Dead Island 2 (2023) - Still can’t believe this managed to see the light of day. I’m just grateful more than anything.
- Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (2022) - Never played the original, unfortunately. Having a good time with it though!
- Little Goody Two Shoes (2023) - This is a really cute game! Bogged down with the weird perfectionist thing of getting everything done in one playthrough, which I don’t think is even possible.
- Minds Beneath Us (2024) - Really intriguing story set in a miserable post-capitalist world. Definitely wouldn’t want to live it, but love to explore the themes here.
- The Callisto Protocol (2022) - Corny to start, but I dig the Dead Space-like vibes!
Books
- Life is Strange: Forget-Me-Not (2024) - Loved True Colors, so naturally I had to pick up the volume that bundles everything together.
- Polysecure: Attachment, Trauma, and Consensual Nonmonogamy (2020) - Exploring and detangling a lot of traditional relationship stuff in my brain.

Education
I’m back in it once again! Couldn’t stay away for too long, I always just have the itch to learn something new. This time, however, I want to put a bigger focus on the things I genuinely want to do rather than what makes the money. My creative side has been neglected throughout my personal journey, and I want to change that.
In Progress
Games
- Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) - Having lots of fun with modding this one. Using a mod pack because scouring through Nexusmods figuring out the perfect balance has stopped being fun. I let the professionals handle this now! Started a new playthrough and am hoping to hit the point where Phantom Liberty kicks in soon.
On Hold
Games
- Final Fantasy XVI (2024) - Might be hitting a wall with this one, getting kind of bored. Might revisit later?
- Persona 4 Golden (2020) - Truth be told, I keep forgetting that I want to play this, but I do want to play it.
- Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance (2024) - Just got too bored and refunded :(
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (2016) - Modpack made it too hard :(

Beginner Mandarin
It really was a kind of optimism that propelled me to try starting Mandarin at the beginning of this month. I had managed to find a class for beginner Mandarin outside of the typical school setting, so I bit the bullet and started. It was only until after that I realized that everything was based in the East Coast, so unfortunately this meant waking up at 6 AM, every week, to make it to class. This quickly became an exercise in futility, as I was never the morning type to begin with.
Soon after that, other things began to happen in my life that took full priority for me. This meant, ultimately, that I would have to put this on the backburner for now. Overall, I probably attended only three or four classes in total, and was unable to do the (optional) homework assignments for any of them. I think I really do need the strict academic punishment aspect of learning to feel motivated, after all.
Server
If you know, you know. I’m so sorry. I’m too busy to consider working on it.
